Many of us begin the New Year with goals and resolutions– to get that promotion, to watch less TV, or to lose a couple of pounds. The problem is, resolutions are notorious for not sticking around. Our high goals drop almost as quickly as the Times Square Ball. This year the REA JET team was ready to kick some goals. We decided to host our first ever team weight-loss challenge: 20 in ‘16. The competition lasted from January 1st until July 4th. All employees were invited to participate in the race for weight-loss success.
As the months went on, we remembered why New Year’s resolutions are so hard to keep: dieting is not easy. Many of us had moments where we wanted to cheat or quit. But, as the competition progressed we developed a culture of accountability. We began swapping food tips at lunch, asking one another about our progress, and offering words of encouragement when needed. Dieting eventually became… dare we say it… fun. Although 20 in ‘16 was meant to be a competition, the most fun part was working towards the ongoing goal as a group and holding one another accountable.
However, 20 in ‘16 was a competition, and with every competition there are winners or in this case losers. Our top 3 biggest losers were:
Third Place: Dan lost 13.2 pounds and 7.1% of his body weight
Second Place: Mike lost 23.4 pounds and 10.6% of his body weight
And first place winner was…drum roll…
PHIL with a weight loss of 68.8 pounds and 25.8% of his body weight! Phil took home a cash prize for his victory.
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone on our team that participated in the challenge. We had so much fun that we plan on having another contest the second half of the year. Stay tuned for more company updates!
